2020 Silmo d’Or award winning MiyoSmart with D.I.M.S. Technology – a spectacle lens for myopia control in children – is now available in Australia and New Zealand. The lens, which was developed in collaboration with Hoya Corporation’s research collaborator, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, is based on a Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments Technology or ‘D.I.M.S. Technology’, which won the Grand Prize, Grand Award and Gold Medal at the 46th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva in April 2018.
Wearing defocus spectacle lenses daily significantly slows myopia progression and axial elongation in myopic children aged eight to 13, according to a two-year double-blind randomised clinical trial conducted in Hong Kong. The trial concluded that children wearing defocus lenses had 60% less myopia progression* compared with those wearing single-vision lenses. These findings provide strong evidence that defocus lenses are effective in reducing myopia progression.
