Widefield and ultra-widefield imaging has opened up new possibilities regarding the screening, diagnosis and our understanding of peripheral retinal diseases. However, the holy-grail of peripheral retinal imaging – a distortion free, high resolution, true-colour, single-capture ora serrata to ora serrata photograph – remains elusive.

As technology improves, the associated artefacts and costs of widefield and ultra-widefield imaging platforms will diminish, allowing this technology to progressively become the standard of care in fundus photography.
