Optom Students Visit Essilor Lab

Students were surprised to see the important role online ordering has in optometry today and the seamless manner in which an order flows from when it was originally generated, to the cut lens, to finishing and polishing the lens. Finally, they witnessed the intricate steps involved in fitting the finished lenses into a frame from the simplest metal to the most complex rimless.

"Its interesting to see how many people are behind producing a lens," commented student Emily Campbell.

Another student, Jacqui Lines, said she didn't realise how many checks were done, to make sure the most precise lens was produced.

"Visiting Essilor Victoria was an eye opener! It was great to see the different steps in creating the lens for glasses," said student Robbie Chan.

Essilor Victoria's Lab Operations Manager, Anthony Stella, saw first hand the interest of the students in the complexity of lens manufacturing.

"It was a pleasure to have an enthusiastic group of next generation optometrists show such a keen interest in seeing what it really takes to produce a high quality optical product,' said Mr. Stella.
