Systane Lubricant Eye Drops, 28 x 0.8 ml, preservativefree single dose vials, will be available on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) from 1 August, 2008, as a ‘Streamlined Authority' item for Ophthalmologists and ‘Authority' item for therapeutically endorsed Optometrists. Systane represents an advanced technology in the treatment of Dry Eye. According to the manufacturer the eye drops are believed to "form a longerlasting,soft, protective gel ‘bandage' on contact with the
alkaline environment of the eye. As well as prolonged, soothing relief, Systane promotes healing
of the underlying damaged ocular tissue."
