Optician Honoured
John Jackson, an optician who has been running a practice in Macquarie Street, Parramatta, since 1958, has been honoured with the Order of Australia (OAM) in the Queen's Birthday Honours
for his service to the optical dispensing industry and his leadership roles in professional organisations. Mr. Jackson, who was the founding chairman of the Australasian Dispensing Opticians Association in 1994, on receiving the award said he "was a bit lost for words and a bit humbled." Mr. Jackson said his most rewarding work was helping establish volunteer eye clinics for Kosovan and East Timorese refugees.
