Norm Lipson
Norm Lipson is mivision's Senior Writer.
He has worked in the media industry for forty years, starting with a cadetship on the Sydney Daily Telegraph where he covered a range of news events and feature stories. He has spent two years working as a foreign correspondent for News Ltd. in London, New York and also covered events in the Middle East.
He had a brief stint with the (now defunct) Sydney Sun newspaper before going to Channel 7 in 1982, where he worked as a crime and news reporter. Alongside this, Norm was also covering numerous court hearings and contributing/pr
In 1984, he was offered a job from Channel 10, where he worked for four years as both a news and current affairs reporter before deciding to leave to work as a freelance journalist.
Since then, Norm Lipson has worked as a radio producer for 2GB; he has continued to write for magazines in the ACP group, including The Bulletin and Woman's Day; he has written scripts for top rating crime documentaries, such as Crime Investigation Australia (screened on the Fox Network and Channel 9); and has written three true-crime books and two biographies.
Norm brings to mivision a wealth of writing experience and great understanding of the angles that interest readers.
Associate Professor Gerard Sutton
Dr Gerard Sutton is a Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Auckland University, Senior Staff Specialist at Sydney Eye Hospital and in private practice at The Eye Institute in Sydney. He writes mivision's miophthalmology column.
His areas of expertise are Corneal, Refractive and Cataract surgery. He has published over 40 peer reviewed papers and textbook chapters. He has pioneered a number of surgical techniques in Australia. He was the first surgeon in NSW to insert an Artificial Cornea and the first surgeon in Australia to use the Intacs intrastromal ring for the treatment of Keratoconus and the first to perform LASIK with the Intralase femtosecond laser. He was also the first surgeon in Australia to perform Penetrating Keratoplasty, Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty and Descemets Stripping Endokeratoplast
Gerard has performed and taught cataract and corneal surgery in Cambodia and Burma and remains part of the Myanmar Eye Care Project team. Outside work he is a family man, rugby coach and all too occasionally a flyfisherman.

As mivision's Fashion writer, Sharon Smith brings to the role a wealth of experience in retail, marketing, event management and PR for market-leading national and international prestige brands as diverse as Estee Lauder and The Chifley Hotel chain to Maurice Lacroix and Porsche Design timepieces and more recently for eyewear brands including D&G, Montblanc, Timberland and Roberto Cavalli.
miFashion seeks to educate the industry about local and international fashion eyewear trends and news, and attempts to demystify independent optometry in deciphering international press releases and jargon into what is relevant for their practice. miFashion has been created as a reference guide for buyers and practice staff to enable them to make sound frame purchases for their clientele, and keep abreast of all that is new in design and brand names.
