Alcon Laboratories was founded in 1945 by Robert D. Alexander and William C. Conner and its name originated by combining the first syllable of each man’s last name.

Today Alcon is an international company specialising in the discovery, development, manufacture and marketing of surgical devices, contact lens care products, Ophthalmic and ENT pharmaceuticals.

Within optometry practice Alcon specialises in the offering of dry eye products and contact lens solutions. Both Systane Lubricating Eye Drops and OPTI-FREE RepleniSH Multi-Purpose Disinfecting Solution are market leading brands in their own categories.
